Elizabethan Gallery Restoration Update: Work Begins in Wakefield

The Elizabethan Gallery Main Hall

Vickie Cole |

We've had the keys to The Elizabethan Gallery on Brook Street, Wakefield for a month now, and while the building looks unchanged from the outside, work is well underway behind the scenes.

If you missed our original announcement, you can read all about our move to The Elizabethan Gallery here.

Appointing Our Restoration Team

We're delighted to have appointed local architect Dr Joanne Harrison of Harrison Architectural Heritage, Wakefield to oversee the restoration. Dr Harrison brings specialist expertise in heritage buildings, and her involvement gives us great confidence as we begin this important project.

Over the past month we've held multiple site meetings with specialist trades, including glass restoration companies, ramp manufacturers, security specialists, and heating engineers — all working towards bringing this remarkable building back to life.

Roof Restoration Starting July 2026

Our most pressing priority is the roof. Green and Heritage Roofing will be on site in July to restore the roof and the original cast iron guttering and downpipes. This work is urgent — the roof has been leaking for a number of years, causing substantial water damage to the building. Thankfully, the damage is largely contained to the Victorian extension rather than the historic Elizabethan structure itself.

We'll be sharing regular updates here and on our Facebook and Instagram pages as the restoration progresses. Thank you for your continued support — we can't wait to welcome you through the doors in 2027.
