If you've walked past recently, you'll have noticed the Elizabethan Gallery has been dressed in scaffolding this month — and for very good reason. Specialist roofers Green and Heritage have been hard at work carrying out some long-overdue and much-needed repairs to our beautiful Victorian roof.
The work has been extensive. All the underfelt has been replaced, the missing lead has been restored, and — most satisfyingly — you can no longer see daylight through the roof! The building is once again fully waterproof and well-prepared to face whatever the British winter has in store.
The team also took the opportunity to seal and repaint all the cast iron guttering and downpipes, and the difference is already remarkable. The gallery is beginning to look truly loved again.
It's been wonderful to see how many of you noticed the scaffolding and popped in to share the news — it seems the roof repairs haven't gone unnoticed! Your enthusiasm for the building means the world to us.
This is just the beginning of what promises to be a meaningful restoration journey.
